Film Profile: Now, Forager

a man searches for fungiWriting for this blog has opened up into a variety of subjects, but I can’t forget where I started… and that was discussing and discovering crowd-funded film success stories. So occasionally I will be featuring a film profile of a completed independent film that is either partially or fully crowd-funded, starting this week with the film Now, Forager: A Film About Love and Fungi.

The film was shot in full digital HD and stars Jason Cortlund, who also wrote and co-directed the production. The story follows a husband and wife team who make their (small) living by foraging for mushrooms from woodland areas and selling them door-to-door to the upscale restaurants of New York City. The film spans an entire year and highlights the risks and rewards of living a life dependant on seasons, weather, circumstance, and the largely unforeseen.

The film set out to raise $3,000.00 on Kickstarter and ended their pledge drive with a total of $6,360.00. Upon the films completion it premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and recently had its North American premiere at New Directors/New Films in New York City, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art. Congratulations to Jason and the rest of the cast and crew, great job!

The preceding was from Viynl Foote production associate Dave Lenio, bringing you film related goodness every Monday for The Independent Collective.
