Life is full of responsibilities. Between our friends, families, work commitments, school scheduled, and more, we have a lot to juggle. Between all of these aspects, it can be easy to feel like we don’t have enough time to take care of ourselves. But there is perhaps no responsibility in our lives that is as important as our responsibility to care for our own bodies.

After all, our body is the only one we get. And if you don’t properly care for it, you’ll eventually find that you’ve robbed yourself of the healthy body that you need in order to fulfill your many other responsibilities. So do yourself — and everyone who relies on you — a favor. Protect and care for your body in every way that you can. Here are a few tips to keep you on track.

See your doctor regularly

Ask yourself who your primary care physician is. If you don’t know, it’s time to get one — and time to start visiting that primary care physician regularly. You should be dropping by the doctor’s office every year for your annual checkup at the very least. Speak to your doctor about scheduling follow-up appointments, visiting any specialists that you may need, and keeping on track with regular checkups. If you need to visit more often than once a year, your doctor will be sure to let you know. Once you make these appointments, keep them. And always make sure not to leave the doctor’s office without making your next one.

See all of your doctors regularly

Primary care physicians are your main point of contact in the medical world, but they’re not going to direct you to every last medical and dental professional that you should see. You’re going to have to take some responsibility to get the care you need.

Visit the eye doctor regularly, and, if you need corrective lenses or any other kind of eye-specific treatment or care, visit at least once every year or two. As with your primary care physician, your eye doctor can help you make a schedule that ensures you’re visiting often enough.

Visit the dentist, too, and consider other health experts you might want to talk to. These may include nutritionists, chiropractors, and mental health professionals. Keep track of all of the different doctors you should see.

Pay attention to what you eat

Your doctor can help you detect and defend against illnesses, but nobody can give you the nutrition you need— it’s up to you to do that. Make sure that you’re careful about what you put in your body. In order to get the nutrients you need, focus on eating whole foods. Whole foods are unprocessed, and include items such as meats and vegetables. Steer clear of that highly processed snack food you’ll find in most stores. It’s terrible for you because it’s packed with calories and fats despite not having the nutrients you need.

Get exercise regularly — but don’t overwork your body!

Nutrition is key to staying healthy, but you’ll still have trouble keeping your body in shape if you don’t exercise. Experts recommend that we get at least a half-hour of exercise a day, five days a week.

Exercise is good, but don’t forget that your body needs to recharge sometimes, too. And make sure that you’re properly fueling your workouts. You need carbohydrates and calories to power through your hard work, and your muscles need protein to recover. Check out the many great pre and post-workout supplements on the market. Mesomorph pre-workout supplements are a great choice for those who are working to gain muscle mass and add an extra boost to their daily workout routines, experts say.

You only get one body, so take the steps necessary to protect and empower it. You need to ensure you have the health and the energy it takes to tackle all of your other many responsibilities. If you make caring for yourself a priority, your other priorities will be easier to manage.
