October is well and truly upon us and with the chai lattes back on the menus, the pumpkin pie mix back on the shelves and the cable knit jumpers back in our wardrobes, it’s time to get spooky! Whether you want to scare yourself and your mates or you want to give the kids a Halloween to remember, find somewhere exciting and do something different this year. With plenty of places in and around the UK organising eerie events to give you the goosebumps, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the 31st.

Dover Castle

While the South of England is an incredibly attractive place to live with many people opting for shared ownership properties in Kent and looking for houses for sale in Dover, this creepy castle is certainly one you would not want to move into. With its previous residents still lurking you’ll be quite relieved to go home and sleep in your own bed once you’ve enjoyed a bit of spooking on Halloween night. With a whole network of creepy tunnels running beneath this Jacobean fortress, Dover Castle is said to be haunted by a headless drummer boy who was decapitated when a thief robbed him and took the large sum of money he was carrying. Other ghoulish guests include war time soldiers that worked within the tunnels, going about their daily business. English Heritage is putting on an event this year all about the hauntings of Dover Castle and the mystery surrounding it so get yourself down to the South East and give yourself a fright this October.

Spice Island

This old coastal location, now known as Portsmouth point, is said to be home to a few phantom pirates that wonder the harbour at night. The port is riddled with 800 years of history of men being forced into the navy, unsolved murders and gruesome tales of violence and lewd goings on. The area was exempt from the bylaws of the city making it a dangerous and mysterious place both day and night in Portsmouth. This Halloween you can take a thrilling ghost walk along the harrowing harbour and perhaps spot a spooky sailor or two with Dark Encounters guided tour.

The Crystal Maze Halloween Edition

Be prepared for a night like no other with this London Halloween attraction. If you fancy being chased by a blood thirsty vampire while scrambling to work out the puzzles and free yourself from the being locked-in, then the Crystal Maze is the perfect way to spend your Halloween. Whether you do it with your friends, you bring along the family or you join a group and work together to master the maze, this thrilling event will get your heart racing and your palms sweating as you fight to escape being trapped forever.

The House of the Dead

Whether you own your home, are looking for houses for sale in Harrow or you still live with your mum and dad I think we can all agree a real deal breaker when it comes to living somewhere, is ghosts. No one wants to share their home with a ghostly guest. Annoying neighbours, squirrels in the loft, worse for wear drains – we can all manage, but ghosts? Hell no.

But while a haunted house is something we want to avoid 364 days of the year, Halloween is definitely an exception. Manchester’s house of the dead is a haunted house attraction that will leave you with sleepless nights well into November. With chilling jump scares, blood spattered walls and dark corners to crawl out of, this house of horrors will certainly have you screaming, however brave you may think you are.

So there you have it. The one night of the year we actually enjoy being positively petrified, is now all sorted for you. So book your tickets, assemble your troops and try to put on a brave face as you venture into the world of spooky Halloween fun.
